Burning Peanuts

This happened on the 30th of May, 2017. My group included Me, Lola, Patience, Xanthe and Indi. It happened in the science room of Hobsonville Point Primary School.

Today we were burning peanuts. The purpose was to see how much energy is in a peanut. We will do this by holding a peanut with tongs in the fire of the candle.

As we held the first peanut over the flame, it's edges burnt. The peanut turned black as coal. The fire ON the peanut got a tiny bit smaller. The peanut's flame took exactly four minutes and 1 second to go out. The second peanut took 3 minutes and nineteen seconds to go. Finally, the third. This took one minute and fourty - five seconds.

I'm not sure why they took different times, but I sure did enjoy it!
What I noticed: the tongs turned black too! My hypothesis is that the tongs somehow effected the flare, I don't know though.
